This is the time of the year I encourage our rostered ministers to check and make sure their Hunger Action Guide is not languishing on the bottom of their stack of mail.

This year what may be lost in your mail is a letter explaining that for the sake of stewardship, samples have not been mailed but are available online and can be ordered for free.

These Action Guides are an often-overlooked resource, full of great ideas.

What you will find in this year’s guide:

Advent Litany

to use on Sundays or in your newsletters

Advent Calendar

Everyone loves an Advent Calendar. Each day is a reminder of the Christ child for whom we wait and work, with hymns, prayers, Bible verses and information about how ELCA Good Gifts make a difference in the world.  You can download them or order your free copies.

Advent Study Guide

“God With Us”

A four week study based on the lectionary texts which includes a reflection, study questions and a prayer for each week.

The Northeastern Iowa Synod staff will be providing a recorded sermon for each week of Advent based on this study.

Advent Tree

ELCA Good Gifts are a creative, meaningful way to support the ministries of the ELCA that mean the most to you and your loved ones.

Put up a tree with ornaments that represent ELCA Good Gifts as well as your congregation’s fundraising goal. Invite families to select ornaments representing the gifts they’d like to give and to take them home as a reminder of their giving. The ELCA Good Gifts Resource page has several options for ordering free ornaments.

Start a Feeding Ministry

There’s a toolkit for that! It provides basic, practical, step by step suggestions for providing a feeding ministry in your community.
