The 2019 World Hunger Action Guide is Here!
This is a great resource full of great ideas for Lent, Youth, Confirmation, and VBS and beyond.
Instead of including everything at once, for the next few weeks we’ll take one idea from the Action Guide to highlight and make it easy for you to find all that you need online to use these ideas.
First, make sure you take the Action Guide from your stack on your desk and put it in a place you can access it easily.
Or download it.
Since Lent is coming up, let’s start with the 2019 40 Days of Giving.
This year’s study focuses on the Disciplines of Lent from the Invitation to Lent in the Ash Wednesday Liturgy:
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to a discipline that contends against evil and resists whatever leads us away from love of God and neighbor. I invite you, therefore, to the discipline of Lent—self-examination and repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love—strengthened by the gifts of word and sacrament. Let us continue our journey through these forty days to the great Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. (ELW, pg. 252).
This five-week study reflects on what the Lenten practices of repentance, prayer, and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love mean for us today. Each Session draws on projects supported by ELCA World Hunger and includes questions for conversation or reflection.

Accompanying the 40 Days of Giving is a calendar inviting members to set a goal for giving during Lent.
Each day there is a prayer or action suggestion. The reminders and suggestions all center around the Four Disciplines of Lent, Self-Examination, and Repentance, Prayer and Fasting, Works of Love and Sacrificial Giving.

There’s a planning guide to help you put it all together.
