In March 2014, I led a workshop on social media and the church at our Day of
Renewal for Rostered Leaders.  In preparation for that event we sent out an e-letter with some helpful links for using social media.  This is an updated list of information and resources.


Cover Photo:  

828 px wide by 315px high–must be at least 399px wide


Must be at least 180×180 pixels.  Rectangular images will be cropped to fit a square

Profile pic: 400 x 400 px
Cover photo: 1500 x 500 px
When you place the hashtag (#) in front of a word or group of words, you turn them
into a searchable link that allows people to find all the tweets on that
topic.  Hashtags are used for chats, so that you can see only tweets on
the topic of that chat.  They are also used for events, conferences and
meetings as a way to share what you are experiencing and involve more people in
the event.
If you tweet anything about church, be sure to use #ELCA. This helps connect ELCA people.

Helpful Links for Twitter

Buffer allows you to schedule both tweets and Facebook posts.  It also provides helpful analytics about your posts.
Tiny Url  Long urls (web addresses) make it difficult to tweet links and add any comment.
This site will make your url shorter.
Twubs can make it easier to follow a Tweetchats, just put in the hashtag for the chat.
Hootsuite also allows you to schedule tweets and Facebook posts and participate in Tweetchats
Storify is an easy way to make transcripts of Tweetchats or collect live tweets from events and make a story out of it.
#CHSOCM:  Every Tuesday night at 8 pm CDT church leaders from different traditions show up on
Twitter to share ideas and experiences with church and social media. posts transcripts from the chats and offers helpful articles.

Other Platforms and Apps

QR Codes
QR codes allow those with scanner apps on their smart phones to scan the image and
go directly to the website or PDF link.  You can put the code to your
websites and social media profiles in your newsletters and worship bulletin.
Youcan put in any link and it will turn it into a QR image that you can download
and put in your publications.
